Ironically cartoons are one of the few things I am serious about. Just you wait until I get to Roadrunner. After all, Chuck Jones himself claimed it was a metaphor for man's relationship with god.
Reading this was such a treat! I was a Los Bros Hernandez superfan in the mid 90s but had no knowledge of this book and will now become obsessed with tracking it down. I absolutely adore all of Jaime's artwork and spent many a teenage hour shamelessly copying his drawings in hopes that I would absorb some skill via osmosis.
Excellent - I did really enjoy going back to it, but I do really treasure it as my introduction to Los Bros. And like you, I've spent my life trying to draw like Jaime. As a teenager I painted over the Star Wars scene my Dad had painted onto my childhood bedroom wall with lifesize portraits of Maggie, Hopey & Izzy.
Really enjoyed this. I wasn't aware of how this series came to be and all of the creators involved so I appreciated that. Did you ever read Dean Motter's comic book adaptation of The Prisoner? I enjoyed that one, I think I have the original issues somewhere.
Thanks, Mark, much appreciated - as is the recommendation - I hadn’t even heard of it and now I very much need to find it
The tone of this one is so, so earnest. What happened to the playfulness of the earlier essays?
