You continue to track my life in these pieces… my dad worked on “Oh What A Lovely War” and I can still remember being taken down to Brighton Pier, as a child, to visit the set.
All chanting ‘Luxuriate! Luxuriate!’ as they went, I hope. That’s incredible though - I really should have covered the movie in this series, if only so I could have included Cribbens
My dad had an extraordinary life in the movie business. He actually wrote a memoir about it all, in his later years - which includes a chapter on this very film - but could never find a publisher for it, despite all the stories.
Incredible. Do you have a copy? I did really enjoy oh! What a lovely war (I don’t think I spent enough time on it in the piece) and it has the extra enjoyment of spotting all the bits of the South Downs where they did location filming
I do have a copy, yes. If you’re interested in hearing more, DM/email me. I really should watch Oh What A Lovely War, I have to admit I’m not sure I’ve ever actually seen it and if I did it was many, many years ago.

That’s amazing. What did your dad do?
He was head of marketing for the distributor, he got to know Dickie A pretty well and they were always in touch from that time on.
Zounds.
He also worked on the Peter Cushing “Doctor Who & The Daleks” movie, and was responsible for taking a pack of Daleks onto the Croissette at Cannes!

This is ace.
