Here's where I have to admit that they use such a comical sound effect for the farting it took me a little while to figure out what was going on. I watched on the BFI channel on Amazon Prime - I think that means you can watch it just through the BFI online
The IPCRESS File is the first and punchiest, but Berlin Game/Mexico Set/London Match and the two proceeding trilogies are his masterpiece. Also (shameless plug):
Agree game/set/match was his best. I find Deighton is a ‘simpler read’ than LeCarre. Berlin Game was made into a tv series but only shown once. Me thinks Deighton didn’t approve. Having only seen Slow Horses on tv I may well give Mick Herron a try as there is an awful lot of spy genre rubbish out there.
Thanks for recommending Good Morning - I’m so intrigued by the farting that I’ll have to check it out

I would argue, mind you, that Len Deighton is at least the equal of le Carré, and perhaps more innovative.
Ooh, I think I’ve only read SS-GB (and that because I’d seen the TV series, so I was sort of gulping it down). Which would you recommend?
‘Horse Under Water’ is a good introduction as one of his stand-alone works. Reminds me a little of Eric Ambler but still with Deighton’s hallmarks.
