Absolutely brilliant breakdown of what makes a Holmes adaptation sing. The point about those whimsical little details being the real soul of Doyle's writing is spot on, not jsut the plots. I remember watching Brett's performance years back and being floored by how he nailed that mix of cerebral intensity and theatrical flair. The casting of Frank Middlemass as Henry Baker sounds like exactyl the kind of thing that elevates good TV into great.
