Great post! I loved Morse. Its tone was great - it had a great deal more gravitas than an often too-humorous rampage through an Agatha Christie adaptation, but with a rather lighter touch than the rather grimmer series such as Cracker or Prime Suspect. What do you think of its spin-offs Lewis and Endeavour?
(Sorry to take so long to reply - I've had my dad AND a spaniel staying with me and I'm honestly hard pushed to say which is more time-consuming.) I haven't watched Lewis or Endeavour, although I *love* Roger Allam and think he should be in everything - is Endeavour a good place to start (given that I have a sneaking liking for Foyle's War as well...)?
There's a line he has in The Thick of It that I think about at least once a week: 'I always tuck my shirt in, it's part of getting dressed.' It's not inherently funny but his delivery is... perfect
Sounds like you've got your hands full, Rowan! Roger Allam is great, isn't he? I've loved him for years on the radio - namely 'Cabin Pressure' (a hilarious John Finnemore sitcom) and a wonderful, wonderful adaptation of 'Les Misérables' (adaptation of the book into a radio play), both on Radio 4. You'll love him in Endeavour. I haven't watched them all, but they're pretty good (albeit rather long!).
I really enjoyed this excellent post. Bullseye. 🎯
Thank you!

I think you pretty much can’t go wrong with watching/listening to everything Roger Allam has ever been in
