And of course, the fabulous Rik Mayall as Lord Flashheart. Woof!

Brilliant analysis of how Elton shifted the show from tortured Oxbridge wordplay to something with actual momentum. The Curtis-Elton partnership really is underappreciated when people talk about 80s British comedy. What makes Blackadder II work isnt just the wit but the pacing, the way scenes escalate quickly like that archery bit. I rewatched it last year after years of quoting lines withoutcontext and was surprised how tightly constructed each episode still feels. The whole BBC studio era genuinely produced better comedy than anything we're getting from streaming platforms today.
