I suspect St Nick has now dropped off my radar, along with many other things that I used to like. I’ve yet to stir myself to listen to his last record Wild God. But the Bad Seeds in Vic Park three years ago was some fucking show

I discovered Nick Cave through Wings of Desire, and popped down to Our Price where I bought Kicking Against The Pricks, which I can still listen to with pleasure. And really the only Cave songs I like are those and the ones featured in the film. (Plus Red Right Hand). I like his mature persona, and the book with Sean O’Hagan is very good. But for the most part the music leaves me cold. From this I draw the conclusion that we always overrate the singer, because they are out front. It’s the band that makes the art. On this, I’m Team Blixa. Einstürzende Neubaten rule.
